Water Quality

This page outlines the Water Quality Theme which is funded under the Lough Neagh Strategic Fund.

Aim

The aim of the Water Quality Theme is to prevent deterioration, improve quality and ensure fair and equitable use of the water resource of Lough Neagh, consistent with environmental designations, economic factors and human uses.

Project Types

W 1.1 - Strategic litter clean-up / prevention campaign

We would like to fund a number of strategic projects dealing with co-ordinated wetlands clean-up. A typical project would entail initial funding for clean-up campaign set-up costs and then subsequent small grant assistance for yearly costs.

W 1.2 - Biological treatment of effluent

We would like to fund a number of strategic projects that aim to treat septic tank effluent using biological means such as reed beds. The aim is to produce a new wetland habitat and to have a positive impact on water quality.
